#148 - NAMM 2022 / 8Bit: Tony Hawk / 40 Years, All Around

Greg spent the weekend at NAMM. This year’s conference was significantly smaller than years past, with some major manufacturer’s opting out of buying a pricey booth. While this is concerning from a ‘Future of NAMM’ standpoint, it made for a better experience and was much less overwhelming. Greg was asked to do an onstage demo of the Versoul Raya Ronnie Wood guitar from the Finnish company Premiere Guitar [YouTube].

Song: Joey DeFrancesco - “Ring a Ding”

Jay’s back with 8Bit, this time we’re listening to the music of the first two Tony Hawk video games. Embodying skate culture’s love of punk, ska & mixtapes, the game felt like hanging out at a skate park. If you spent any significant amount of time playing Tony Hawk, these songs take you back…if you didn’t, it’s out on Switch now! Also, Jay tells us about his recent exploration of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s catalog and why he’s now completely on board the GizzTrain (this is very exciting news!).

Songs:

Nick is celebrating the fact that, with Greg’s birthday on June 6th behind us, we’ve all crossed the threshold into 40. For a little perspective, and to celebrate our collective milestones, we take a quick look at the music of 1981 & 1982.

Songs:

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather, we’ll be back next week!
