#151 - Jonathan Wilson | YSCIO Jam | Family Reunions
Greg introduces us to the very talented producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson. He’s worked with Father John Misty on all of his albums, produced artists like Billy Strings & Dawes, cowrote some music with Erykah Badu and has released 4 albums of solo material. He has a very unique style and sound and is credited with reviving the Laurel Canyon scene, first popularized by Joni Mitchell, CSNY, and others. He’s currently playing with Roger Waters, which is how Greg discovered him and the guys thoroughly enjoyed his tunes.

Last Thursday, Greg joined Jay, Nick, friends of the show Kresimir Tokic & Gabriel Riccio (and Kresimir’s neighbor Christophe Mondot) for an awesome jam session. We discuss the dynamics, the setup, the mix, the songs… all of it. It was such a rare and wonderful evening that we thought we’d share some of the songs with you guys. Hope you enjoy!

Sleepers - “Glaze”
Sleepers - “All Blues”
Sleepers - “Structural Integrity”
Nick spent this past Saturday in South Fork, PA for a family reunion and came away with a sweet cigar box guitar, created by Bruce Standley (his first-cousin-once-removed-in-law…figuring that out took some work ;-). Bruce has been making these for fun for a few years and the result is fantastic. If anyone is interested in learning more, shoot us an email at ysciopodcast@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch. Then, after apologizing to the relative that he outbid for the guitar (Hi Aunt Amy!), Nick had a delightful conversation about King Gizzard with his second-cousin Chase Gleason, who plays bass and guitar. To sum it all up, Nick just wanted to let everyone know that going to a family reunion and just being present with the relatives around that you’ve never had a chance to get to know is pretty freaking cool. We had lots of good feels this episode!
Song: Tune-Yards - “Bizness”
