#204 - Independent Artists on Thirty Tigers | News With Nick | Bashfest: The Idol
Jay’s been coming across a particular production house on many of his latest vinyl purchases. The company Thirty Tigers bills itself as an entertainment company that specializes in independent label services. They offer distribution, marketing, promotion, management and publicity on an album by album basis & take a commission on the record’s sales. It seems to be gaining traction as a diverse range of artists seem to be signing on.
Song: Frank Zappa - “Chunga’s Revenge“
News with Nick is back and, thanks to friend of the show Erik Lenhart (Thanks Erik!), it now has a theme song! This week, we have a Travis Scott update on the Astroworld Festival tragedy from last year, then we hear what Jon Batiste has been up to, and we end up on the Genius v. Google case that the Supreme Court isn’t interested in hearing.
Song: Queens of the Stone Age - “Carnavoyeur”
Finally, Greg has kept his mouth shut for long enough, it’s time to talk about “The Idol.” The show has been uniformly panned by critics and audiences alike as confusing and distastefully gratuitous. Starring The Weeknd & Lily-Rose Depp, it’s been reported that the show was over 80% shot when The Weeknd & Sam Levinson took over control of the show. It was then quickly reworked, poorly rewritten & shot mostly at The Weeknd’s mansion. The result is, per Greg, muddled and awful. You should not check this out.
Song: Kurt Rosenwinkel - “The Past Intact”
