#049 - Albums - First Rose of Spring | Rough & Rowdy Ways | Homegrown

This week, as a bookend to last week’s episode, we review 3 new albums from some old souls.

Jay’s opens the episode by introducing “First Rose of Spring”, the latest from Willie Nelson, his 70th solo studio album. It’s sweet, it’s reflective, it’s both sad & witty the way Willie Nelson does it best. It’s a gift that he’s still making new music & hope the output continues as long as he’s loving it.
Songs:
Willie Nelson - I’ll Break Out Again Tonight
Willie Nelson - Stealing Home

Nick drew the lucky card this week, bringing us Bob Dylan’s latest album, “Rough & Rowdy Ways”. Lauded by the critics, we are fully on board with their conclusions & happily so. It’s exactly the type of album we discussed last week, where the cohesion and complimentary themes of the individual tracks fit so well together that the whole is definitely better than the sum of it’s parts (although the songs are wonderful in their own right).
Songs:
Bob Dylan - I Contain Multitudes
Bob Dylan - My Own Version of You

Greg caps things off with a lost & just released treasure from Neil Young. Recorded in 1974, Homegrown is an album of tracks the Mr. Young considered too raw & depressing. It’s an excellent listen, regardless of whether you’re already a fan or not…however, if you are already a fan, it’s a dream come true…an excellent set of cast-out songs that fit perfectly between “On the Beach” & “Zuma”. A real treat!
Songs:
Neil Young - Vacancy
Neil Young - Separate Ways
