#050 - Music Discovered on Vacation, Lady Ahem, Veteran Rockers Weigh In

Jay’s checking in from vacation this week and was kind enough to explain how he’s managed, consistently for nearly 30 years, to discover so much incredibly influential music while he’s at the beach each year. It turns out to be more of who question than a how; in short, catch up with Michael Weddington. Lucky for us, this year is no exception & we’re excited to have Michael join us today! We talk about missing live music, Jay shares some stories from summers past & we get Michael’s take on Neil Young’s latest album Homegrown. It’s a great conversation and we really appreciate Michael coming on!
Song: Sonny Landreth - Firebird Blues

Greg brings us a story that could almost be a fable. A band, with seemingly good intentions, commit an oversight on a pretty big decision, but they stick to their good-intention-guns, missing the point entirely in the process, and things quickly devolve into the exact story that the good intentioned band first wished to avoid. We had a lot of face palms this segment. [Pitchfork]
Song: Lamb of God - New Colossal Hate

Nick wraps things up this week with some veteran artists thoughts on a summer without live music. Some are fine and waiting things out, some are not and need to get back on the road. The feelings & thoughts of the artists vary greatly, as do everyone’s, including our own. Things are a bit precarious in the US right now & all available options have real consequences that will affect us all going forward. Stay strong everyone & please wear a mask when you go out. [Rolling Stone]
Song: Asher Gamedze - Hope in Azania

We’re coming up on Episode 52 & we’d love it if you shared a favorite clip or segment from a past episode! Email us as ysciopodcast@gmail.com.
